Calendula Oil: A Simple, Soothing Remedy (That Actually Works)
If you’ve ever felt helpless watching a loved one suffer through discomfort, especially when medication isn’t helping you’re not alone.
This story is close to home for me.
A few years ago, a close family member was dealing with severe skin irritation under both armpits. He had recently gone through a heart attack and was placed on 18 prescription medications. His body was trying hard to detox through the lymphatic system — especially through the armpits — but covering up that detox process with deodorants was starting to cause major issues.
- Painful, red, inflamed skin.
- Constant itching.
- Prescription creams didn’t help. Natural deodorants didn’t help.
- Even steroid creams couldn’t calm it down.
So I made something from my cabinet. Just from a jar of oil and a handful of dried flowers. Within 30 seconds of applying it the itching stopped. Completely. And I’ve never stopped sharing this remedy since.
Why Calendula?
Calendula (Calendula officinalis), also known as pot marigold, is one of the most gentle, powerful skin healers in the herbal world.
It’s:
- Antiseptic
- Antifungal
- Anti-inflammatory
- Safe for all ages and all areas of the body (including private parts)
It helps support the lymphatic system, soothe chronic irritation, and promote true skin healing — without blocking the body’s detox channels (like conventional deodorants do).
This is why I always keep some on hand — and why you might want to as well.
How to Make Your Own Calendula Infused Oil
You only need 2 ingredients:
- Dried organic calendula flowers
- Olive oil (or sweet almond, jojoba, or avocado oil — something gentle and nourishing)
Quick Method (Sun Infusion)
- Add a generous handful of dried calendula flowers to a clean glass jar.
- Cover completely with oil, leaving at least 1 inch of space at the top.
- Cap tightly and place in a sunny windowsill.
- Let steep for 4–6 weeks, gently shaking the jar every few days.
- Strain through a cheesecloth or clean cloth, squeezing out every last drop.
- Pour into a clean amber bottle or glass jar and store in a cool place.
That’s it.
How to Use Calendula Oil
This oil is so versatile, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without it.
- Rashy armpits
- Diaper rash
- Dry, cracked heels
- Sensitive areas (yes, even down there)
- Eczema or psoriasis patches
- Postpartum care
- Gentle lymphatic massage
Safe for babies, elders, and everyone in between.
Why I Love It
Making this oil reminded me that healing doesn’t always have to come in a prescription bottle. Sometimes it’s as simple as a flower that’s been used for centuries, combined with a little patience and a jar of oil.
I watched a family member finally find relief from something that nothing else could touch. That’s why I keep sharing it — and why it’s worth making a jar even before you need it.
- Your body is wise.
- Your skin is talking to you.
- Let’s give it something gentle and true.
